Success Factors and Lessons Learned from Nature-based Solutions (NbS) identified in LAC, commissioned by ECLAC. Inclusion of Gender, Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities, Youth, and Older Persons in NbS identified in LAC

The objective of the project was to identify concrete experiences of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) related to the NEXUS in LAC, which formed a comprehensive database.

Under the supervision of the Biodiversity Lead of the Natural Resources Division, the following activities were carried out:

1)Enriching the database with cases from sources beyond the previously reviewed platforms, with a focus on practical NbS experiences in LAC related

to climate change adaptation, mitigation, or green infrastructure. This involved gathering, systematizing, and classifying relevant information to create a more robust regional database.

Analyzing the NbS (including both new and existing entries) to determine if they were participatory experiences involving minority or vulnerable groups (women, youth, older persons, and indigenous peoples and local communities) in management, planning, decision-making, and monitoring.

Analyzing the direct and indirect benefits of NbS for minority or vulnerable groups. This included an in-depth analysis of flagship cases, focusing on job creation and employment quality, the economic inclusion of women (using a gender lens), and other key minority or vulnerable groups.

The project incorporated considerations from the IUCN Global Standard for Nature-based Solutions (2021).
