Planisphera conducted research on the relationship between natural capital and external debt to support the negotiation strategies of developing nations with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The organization contributed to information campaigns across three cycles of annual meetings by analyzing the Debt Sustainability Analysis (DSA) framework, providing recommendations grounded in the International Financial Institutions’ (IFI) own literature regarding the importance of valuing natural resources and functional ecosystems within the DSA process.
Furthermore, Planisphera contributed to negotiation documents for Global Environment Facility (GEF) member countries by analyzing resource flows directed toward eligible activities carried out by Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLCs). This included an analysis of the regional distribution of resources channeled through international Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) versus those channeled through local or national CSOs. In the case of the establishment of the Global Biodiversity Framework Fund (GBFF), Planisphera analyzed the critical path for
establishing trust funds at the World Bank and generated data for targeted awareness and outreach campaigns for negotiating countries, identifying the funding thresholds required for its entry into force, as well as an analysis of relevant provisions for direct access for IPLCs.
